Hey! Let's just take a diversion away from the hoopla that we are all anticipating and talk about a current issue at our alma mater: THe Football team. CHeck out the article in the Journal about our team. Thirty years after our departure, the state of University City Schools is anything but stable. The district has been accused of mishandling the gifted programs in the elementary schools, and last year Dr. Bender (principal at the high school)had to slam back at the Journal writers for trashing the players of the team. Now, this year the team will be the Cinderella story of the Suburban South Conference. We just don't have enough players. We just don't have enough enrollment. Our class was about 550 strong. My daughter's graduating class of 2008 lingers around 250. Maybe the city should demolish rows of bungelows off 82nd street and construct some homes with amenities families want for less than 300-500K. WHilst all that is happening we have several success stories, name one: In 2005, Beth Santoro was a presidential scholar, 1 of only 2 per state nationwide. Let's talk. I'll have something positive for you to consider next time you log-in.
